From the mission frontlines - Springs of Grace

We kicked off the month of July over the weekend of the fourth with two fellowship events. Two of our families invited several couples to their ranch/home for dinner and conversation. We got to meet some folks from the community we'd not have met otherwise and plant some seeds. One of these events ended up with an impromptu jam session by a father and son (who are also thinking about helping us create a Praise Team!!) We're also trying to help a Dripping Springs family that recently suffered tragedy. The single father of three was recently killed in a car accident and the grandmother is now raising the children. The oldest, a 15 year-old boy, is wheelchair bound because of MD. We are exploring renovating a bathroom so he can shower by himself. Action on this is pending and would be done along with other Dripping Springs organizations. We meet weekly on Sundays to worship and every Wednesday evening for Bible study. Our topic for Sundays through the end of July has been about Lutheran identity. In August we'll begin exploring the parables of Jesus. Bible study has centered on a video series exploring archeological sites in Israel and learning about the cultural background of the Bible.

Pastor Corky is currently in conversation with a local newspaper that is interested in having him write a regular column on issues of faith. This will probably begin during the 2nd half of August. Also taking place in August is a jam session to kick off organizing our Praise Team and two weeks of vacation back east for Dee and Corky. One of our regulars will be bringing the message in our absence and one family has agreed to provide the music! Thanks to those 20 or so folks who came out over a five Saturday period to knock on doors and hand out door hangers. We reached over 400 homes (for a total of 1900) over one of the hottest period's temperature wise I've lived through. I continue to knock on doors most Saturday mornings and one or two evenings trying to get the word out and engage members of our community in conversation. Had a new experience last week when one man sent his dog after me!

Our name is gaining recognition in Drippin and networking is beginning to happen. But growth continues to be slow so keep us and the community of Dripping Springs in your prayers. Pray for the Lord to prepare the hearts of those He wants us to reach and for us to be able to do so. Thanks for your continued and faithful support.

Blessings, Pastor Corky

The LCMC Texas District held its council meeting at Our Saviours Lutheran Church, Victoria, TX on February 19th. Committee assignments were made for the 2011 Texas District Convention on August 13, 2011 at Our Saviours Lutheran Church, Victoria. Assignments are similar to last year.
